Fair Trade is an international development tool - a more dignified and sustainable alternative to aid.  It is a way to honor differing cultures around the world.  As outlined by the Fair Trade Federation, at One World Handcrafts we are committed to the following principles:

  • Producers receive a fair price with 50% when the order is placed and payment in full when the order is ready to be shipped
  • Long term relationships exist between buyers and producers
  • Producers have access to financial and technical assistance
  • Sustainable, environmentally-friendly production techniques are encouraged
  • Working conditions are healthy and safe
  • Equal employment opportunities are provided for all
  • All aspects of trade and production are open to public accountability
  • No allowance for forced labor or exploitative child labor
